Making money online sounds too easy for us, teens. We have lots of time, knowledge about technology, creativity. Also, we like to earn from the computer. At first glance, earning money on the Internet is the perfect thing for a teenager.
You go to a website that offer payment for your skills: Create an account. Add your PayPal address. Do some stuff. Wait for the cash to flow in and finally, surprise your family and friends with your awesome earning ! While the part up to “do some stuff” sounds easy and straight-forward, the “wait for cash” part, not so much.
The things is, there are always sth stopping us from getting our hard-earned money, which nearly impossible to get rid of it ourselves. If you’ve ever been stopped at the Payment Setting page or Earning Methods Setting or the like when registering for an account at any website then decided to move to another one, you might have already know what I’m going to talk about
Today I’m gonna discuss with you about the infamous hurdle that has stopped us teenagers from ever getting their paycheck – Taxes.
Let’s get started !
1. What are Tax and Payroll Tax ?
First, let’s look at what “tax” means. Here’s a part from Wikipedia:
A tax (from the Latin taxo; “rate”) is a financial charge or other levy imposed upon a taxpayer (an individual or legal entity) by a state or the functional equivalent of a state to fund various public expenditures. A failure to pay, or evasion of or resistance to taxation, is usually punishable by law.
So, in a nutshell, tax is like a fee that the government impose upon something for you to pay or you’ll get punish. There are multiple form of taxes but we’re only gonna cover “Payroll Tax”, which is the actual name of tax we have to pay when earning salaries, precisely in our case, online payments.
The tax you pay when earning salaries, online payments.
Again, from the Wiki:
Payroll taxes are taxes imposed on employers or employees, and are usually calculated as a percentage of the salaries that employers pay their staff. Payroll taxes generally fall into two categories: deductions from an employee’s wages, and taxes paid by the employer based on the employee’s wages.
In layman term, Payroll Tax are the fee that you’ll need to pay when earning income and is calculated differently for each individual, based on the amount they earn. Just keep in mind that the more you make, the more you’ll need to pay.
In general, our earning wouldn’t be so big that tax would make any huge impact but we still need to submit the information to the employer ( the websites that pays you ) so that they can fulfill their roles and not get in any trouble. And that brings us to the troublesome nature of this whole process.
2. How does Tax affect Teenagers when making money online?
To sum it up, everything. You can make thousands of dollars online and feel superb about it but answer me this: “Does that really matter if you can’t receive that amount you’ve just earned ?”
Taxes are used to pay for things like hospitals, schools and other public services but to keep it simple, no tax information, no money for you. Most, if not all, ads network, other affiliate networks or other kind of websites will never send you payments until you file your tax information to them. Although there are still some means for you to earn some money without worrying about tax like MegaTypers, AdFly, etc,… . Also, some affiliate programs don’t need this.
To keep it short, you wanna make good money, you’ll need your tax information ready which brings us to:
“I’m a teen, I don’t have to pay tax and so, I have no tax information, what do I do ?”
Well, actually there is nothing a teen can do about not having tax information BUT there are multiple things you can do to workaround it. As for the main problem, we’ll get to it in a minute.
3. The Workaround
Let’s look through a few ways to tackle our taxing problem – no pun intended, or did I ?
3.1. Choose something Without Taxes
Obviously, if you don’t want to have to deal with tax, choose a make money online method that doesn’t need it
A few example I’ve already covered here on Mmo4teen are:
Fiverr ( depend on how much you’ve made )
You can also look for more or we’ll just update you about them anyway. Sign up for our newsletter so you won’t miss anything !
That was the easy way but like any other easy thing, it won’t yield good result. You can’t make a decent amount typing CAPTCHA !
3.2. Ask for Somebody Else’s Taxes Info
Your parents would gladly help you with this, as long as you make it clear about what you’re doing and nothing fishy is going on. Note that all the other information in your account might need to be related to the tax info so you might need to sign up the account under you parent’s name and all. But believe me, it’s worthy. Also, as the same time you will gain more trust from your family. What’s more, you’ll have to do this to get yourself a working PayPal account, well extremely crucial if you want to earn anything ! Not to mention, that it’s much more guaranteed that you’ll get your money.
4. The Solution
Don’t hate me or anything but there is nothing you can do about this until you’re old enough. Just stick to the above until you’re eligible to pay tax. I’ll look up more solutions and add them to this post later.
Tax is a troublesome matter for teens when it comes to make money online but with some careful searching, you can always find something tax-free. However, the most optimal solution would be ask for an adult to help you with this matter. Not only will it help make your work easier but also familiarize yourself with tax itself. I hope this post has helped you understand more about tax and how it affect yours and all other teens’ online income.
Have you found any interesting ways for teens to make money online without tax? How have you persuaded your parents to help you ?

Making money online for teen? Countless ways.
For teen? Also.
Trying to learn them all? A tedious and rough road.
Teens can earn money with a lot of different websites, some of which has already been covered on our blog as well as on the Make Money Page. But in general, there are just a few basic tricks for you to make an income online. Understand them thoroughly and you’ll be able to up your game by a large margin. Today’s post will give you a complete overview of the many ways to make money online and its other various aspects. It’s gonna be long so get your focus ready !
Let’s get started !
We all need that green piece of paper to get the things we need and usually, the things we want. Money is crucial to our today life. Even though most of us doesn’t need to support the family or being the main source of income for our home, we still need some kind of currency to fulfill our own need. And a teenager has a lot of needs 🙂
It’s all about the $$$
So, when people need money, they look for a rainbow and try to find the gold pot at the end or sometimes, they look for a job. Most of the time, you can easily find a decent job with some skills on your sleeves or a Master Degree of some sort but before writing your perfect resume, you’ll need to be 18 or higher first !
Pots of gold are good if only you can find one.
Yes, it’s not easy for teens to find a job or to be more precise, a way to earn money. And that’s where we start doing some gardening work, some chores, babysitting or walk someone’s dog around. They certainly work, and they work great most of the time. Or they used to. With the advancement of technology and most noticeably, the Internet, why not try something better ?
The Internet is great for many things like watching videos, social media interaction and searching for information but it also works wonder to help teens make some dollars. With so many successful stories about young entrepreneurs making thousands or even millions of dollars online, why not jump in and start your own journey ?
Now that my long and boring speech has ended. Let’s get to the really good stuff.
2. The Basic of make money online for teens
Now, let’s go through how exactly one does make money. Before we talk about online, let’s think about the offline aspect. Money is a currency that is used to trade for things. So no matter how you look at it, the only way to acquire money is to trade. You can trade goods such as food or ur own effort, time and skills, also known as a job.
Making money is all about trading.
The Internet helps us find a job easier since there is a lot of things one can do without needing to reach 18 and there is no need for delivery or taxes and so on. All you need to do is to find someone that is in need of something, give them that and they’ll reward you with some good bucks.
Let’s look through some main ways to generate income:
This is what most will think of first when hearing the word “make money online” and you can’t blame them with so many ads floating around literally everywhere you go and it’s also the main source of income for huge website like Facebook and YouTube, even Google is a big advertiser if you didn’t know.
Ad Network will help you take care of all the technical hassle.
You can either place ads on your site by dealing directly with an advertiser or more commonly, through an Ad Network. They are the middle man that help connect advertisers to publishers and take some kind of commission. Ad Network will take care of almost everything so that you can focus on getting more visitors. Here’s some good resources:
To earn money from advertisements, first try to access to as many visitors as you can, potential customers for the advertisers. That’s why Facebook, YouTube and most blogs with a big number of readers on the Internet prefer ads so much. Another bonus to this is that the process is mostly automated. You set up ads and then focus on how to get visitors, everything else will be handled by the advertisers. You just need to get a lot of people and wait for your earning.
Ads are everywhere nowadays.
But at the same time, this hugely popular methods of making money suffers from “poor earning”. Don’t expect to earn a few thousands dollars with a blog that has only 10 readers. To make a decent amount, you would need to get your site to the hundred thousands or millions and for extraordinary income, you need to be somewhat like this guy:
On 15 August 2013, PewDiePie’s channel became the most subscribed on YouTube, the channel has reached over 38.3 million subscribers as of July 2015.
He currently has 37 million subscribers and generates over $4 million in ad sales per year.
That’s some big number there but you don’t need to make that much if all you want is buying a new book. Here are some good ways to start with advertisements for teenagers:
Don’t let his crazy eyes fool you, he is the king of YouTube.
- Start a blog: Yep, blogging is the start of everything. Install WordPress. Put in some ads and start posting. We’re here to setup and design your blog if you’re interested.
- Sharing links: If you have a lot of links to share, notably download links for popular games or software, something like AdFly will help you make a decent sum of money at the end of the month with minimum effort.
To sum up, advertisements is a straightforward method you can try when starting out but expect to put in lots of effort to really pays off.
2.2 Offer your skills
Your skills are your best assets.
Getting paid for a job still applies perfectly to the Internet world. Although most of us can’t get a job at any company, there are so many things that a teenager can do to earn some money:
- Survey: The ever popular survey is one of the oldest and most well-known method for people looking for a part-time job. It’s easy and pays out well, 1$ to 2$ for answering a few questions about yourself. What can be a better deal ? However, with many others easy to do things, the total payout isn’t that great since you won’t get to fill in an unlimited number of surveys. Also, who wouldn’t be bored doing that ? You can go with multiple survey sites to compensate those but watch out for scams ! And depends on your country, you may or may not have any surveys at all, such at mine 😥
Survey can be a great way to earn
- Completing tasks: Think of em like online babysitting or dish washing. There are generally 2 main types: Either things that you do offline like “check the price tag of something near you” for someone on the Internet or do something straight on the Internet like build a website or make a logo. If you have a skill that might be useful to others, consider giving Fiverr a try. Or alternatively, something like Megatypers would work nicely for those that have some decent typing skill. Remember to only try out things that are suitable for teenagers or exactly, giving payment that teens can access.
Earning money from the internet? Million and billion ways. Just look it up. There’s always something.
Check out these:
2.3. Selling or Promoting products or Services
Sure you can utilize the above two methods to make a decent sum of money, even a lot if you manage to work things out. But let’s turn our attention to the absolute gold mine of the Internet.
The Internet is now widely available for everyone. As a result, it’s an ever growing market with a lot of sellers that want to promote their products and services to a huge pool of consumers. And that’s where you come in, to act as their affiliate. In a way, promoting a products or services is kinda like placing advertisements, but actually a lot more complex and in return, a much bigger payout rate.
Everything is moving toward the Internet. The market is no exception.
Generally, you’ll get a percentage ( usually decided by the sellers ) of the product or service’s price. Usually they have really big price or you’ll earn a very high percentage.
Persuading someone to buy a product or apply for a service is a lot harder than having them simply view an ad. Then work harder on providing quality content. Just think of how hard they work to sell a physical product. All those TV ads and hiring celebrities and all. But when the beauty of the Internet comes to play, you don’t have to work hard to achieve great sales. Only work smart.
Be smart 🙂
Buying and selling things online is more about trust than anything else. Make money online is either about getting in lots of people or having a number of people that trust you. If your visitors don’t trust you, well, don’t hope to gain any sales from them. And once they do, they’ll buy pretty much anything you promote as long as they believe it’ll work for them. That’s why if something isn’t good, don’t promote it. To build trust, first be a trustworthy person.
You don’t need the telescope though.
There’s a common fact among people that make lots of money on the Internet or anywhere else, they are all very HONEST and FRIENDLY. Take PewDiePie for example, he doesn’t just play video games and makes tons of money. He connects to all his fans. Answers all their questions and treat them as his friends, not just people he uses to make money from. That’s why people like him, keep coming back for more and bring him a fortune in the process. So remember the most important thing is to make people like and trust you. If possible, make them love you. 🙂
Profit always points toward trust.
To achieve that, you need to constantly provide them with quality content and find more ways to make them feel like they are receiving a lot from you. Humans like to return the favor, it’s kinda like a part of us. Like how us teen usually “like” someone’s Facebook post if they liked ours”. If you’re planning to promote a 50 dollars course to your visitors than you’d better give them something that worth more than that. And no, I’m not saying that you should give them 51 bucks, I mean to provide them with some really good stuff that they know they are much more worth than your promotion.
When choosing a good product to promote, don’t focus on the amount that you COULD BE making. Focus on whether it actually benefit for your visitors. If it isn’t, you’re not gonna make anything.
Content is still king
Selling your own products or services is essentially promoting what you’re providing. So it’s both harder and easier than promoting someone else’s. It’s harder because you’ll first have to create a good product then promote its great features without sounding biased. Well, the young usually has a big ego, also not easy to control that’s why try not to sound too high and mighty when you’re offering something.
It’s a good idea to try and sell your own products after you’ve tried promoting others.
Another great thing when being the seller is having other people promote your services. Just like you above.
We’ll discuss this later.
In the meanwhile, check out these links:
Frankly, that’s pretty much all the core basic of making money online for teens or for anyone. Just expand from them and you’ll find yourself progress extremely fast.
3. Where to Get Fund for your Online Business Project ?
This is a great question and often asked by teenagers who don’t have access to much ( pocket ) money or any money at all.
In short, you don’t need any money at all to make money online. Most of the methods described in our posts for that matter will be free to join and any kind of fee will be entirely optional. If a page ask for your money to let you make money from it, it’s gonna be scam most of the time ( especially surveys ! ) so keep an eye out.
But in many ways, you do need some small amount of money to start a good website or get some Gigs on Fiverr for things you can’t do. We’ll go over funding when making money on the net later in its own post. But for now, if you need funding, do things need not fee and use that income.
Now that you’ve understood the core basic of online money making. Let’s take a look at other important aspects affecting your work and in turn, your income.
4.1. Information is Key
While the saying “Stop planning, start doing” is never wrong, you should never dive in without having any knowledge beforehand. Always read up about what you’re trying to do. If you’re planning to take on survey, check which sites are good and what tips you can utilize. If Fiverr is your thing, find out how to make your Gig stand out or what’s the best price for your targeted audiences.
Remember : Understand thoroughly what you’re gonna do first. Then get to business.
4.2. Stop Planning, Start Doing !
Eh.. Nope. I’m not being contradicted here. Using your information to plan out things is one of the most important factors of your success only if you follow the plan. What I’m trying to say is, don’t wait for that “perfect time” because it will never be there. I’ve been there once. You know, my team and I kept focusing on polishing the site and forum down to the very last flecks of dust. And keep telling ourselves that we would write the posts and promote our services when the website is ready. In fact, it will never be that “ready” and you wouldn’t have any thing to read about online income if we kept that way of thinking because till today, there’s still many things not finished ( looking at the forum 🙂 )
So, just do it.
Get a blog without waiting till summer.
Read about SEO even when you still have some homework ( remember to finish them though, don’t blame me if you get bad grade 🙂 ).
Act fast and you’ll see result soon.
4.3. Get help
The help you’ll need depends on how you plan to tackle the business. In generally, there’ll be things not on your comfort side so it would be better to ask for support since using that time to do something else would be more efficient. Or, you might even need help on the easiest things as to spend your time and effort on things you need to learn and do yourself. Like I usually ask my friends to help me find images from google to make posts more interesting while I can do it myself. Why? It’d be better for me to work on the design and technical part as no one else in the team can. Therefore, remember to work smart with your teammates. Your effort will be paid off !
This has been a great post and I enjoy written it a lot. Hope you’ve also enjoyed reading this.
So now that you’ve got all the fundamental knowledge about money making online for teenagers,
What do you think should be added ?
Share with other teens your must-have tips and tricks in the comment below !
Making money online doesn’t have to be hard and complicated ( teens or not ) with building website, making products, SEO and such. You can simply earn income by doing what you would do offline on an online environment. Let me clarify: Imagine you’re selling lemonade, you can set up a stand on the sidewalk and start making money. You can also do that by selling lemonade online. Of course, no one would really buy that but what I’m trying to say is, if it’s something that can make you money offline, most of the time, it’ll makes you some online. And today’s post is gonna show you how to make the most out of your offline business by turning it to online. And yes, this is for teenagers so no need to register for a store or anything.
Let’s get started then !
1. What is Fiverr ?
To put it simple, Fiverr is a safe and automate ( for the most part ) marketplace that allows one to do anything for 5$ ( or 25$, 50$, 100$, they’re adding more it seems ) and get anything done for well, 5$. Fiverr services are called Gigs and there are plenty of them. From the most basics like translating text to coding programs or even weird things like prank calling or draw your face with ketchup. Well, anything can be found and surprisingly, even the weird stuffs get a lot of attention.
So, what does all that mean to you ?
First of all, Fiverr allows you to make money from simple things that you enjoy doing. No matter if you like art, technology or even acting, there’ll always be a need for your skill on Fiverr. Secondly, it takes away all the technical stuffs that one has to deal with when open up their own business, online or offline. You don’t have to build your own webstore or take care of payment and negotiating price ’cause Fiverr handles it all. So all you need to do is focus on finishing your Gig then send it to the customers and let Fiverr put money in your Paypal account ! Again, there’s nothing better than Fiverr for a teen looking to start a business online, or just try one out.
2. Pros and Cons
Let’s look through some stats:
- No technical skills required.
- Do whatever you like.
- Safe marketplace.
- You can use Paypal.
- Has a referral program.
- Good support.
- Easy to find others services that you need.
- Everything is at a fixed price, multiplier of 5$, max is 100$ at the time of this writing post.
- Kinda hard to compete if your Gig is similar to others.
- You have to work to get paid, no passive income here ( For an example of passive income, check out Adfly )
3. Setting up your account
Fiverr’s Signup Process is pretty straightforward, you can also use Facebook or Google+ for signing up, perfect for us teenagers.
Fiverr sign up process is one of the fastest and most straightforward I’ve ever seen.
Enter your email.
Click Continue then enter your Username and Password.
Confirm your email address. And you’re done.
After that’s done, you can fill in your info later and remember to put in your payment info ( Paypal ).
You can check out the Invite A Friend section but I can’t seem to access it. It keeps getting a redirect to the Homepage, I’ll update about that later.
4. Creating your first Gig and Start making money
Click on Start Selling.
Then Create A Gig.
Fill in your info.
Remember to choose your words and present your service carefully. There are plenty of different services out there so a good presentation decides the choice of the buyers.
Here’s an example of our WordPress design service:
You can also add in some extra stuffs like faster delivery time, more custom features and charge more for it. It’s totally optional but that’s something to set you apart from the competitors.
Now that that’s done, all you need to do now is to wait for someone to order your Gig.
But we’re not just sellers right ? We’re entrepreneurs.
Then let’s look through some ways to get more customers instead of just sitting around and “wait for the fruits to fall down”.
5. Some tips to boost your income
Here’s some noteworthy tricks to boost your sales:
- Get some testimonials. They’re usually the things that the customers base their decisions on.
- Try asking some friends or family to try out your services and rate it. That’ll give your service some credibility.
- Use high quality images, videos and media in your Gig. Make it looks as professional as you can.
- Spread the news about your services. Many of your friends may need it but did not know and do charge them. Don’t do it for free. This is business but maybe give em some extra.
- Look around for competitors. Learn from them, what they have and don’t have. Then customize your Gig for those holes. It’ll probably make your Gig stand out.
- Search online for people that needs your Gig. Then refer them to it. This will drive sales like crazy.
- It’s your turn to add something here.(in the comment section of course)
6. Wrap up
Starting with Fiverr is a great way to learn how to manage a business online or offline and undoubtedly, start making decent online. I saw 5 figures somewhere on Fiverr.
So what do you think about Fiverr ? What would be your Gig ?
We let you see ours. Share yours in the comment sections !
The make-money-online world is huge. And I wanna emphasize HUGE ! As teenager, we have the ability to learn things faster and better by means of Internet but it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to start and what to do at a specific time.
To make it easier to understand, imagine you were trying to learn how to ride a bicycle. Well, depending on your style, some steps might change but normally, things will go like this: First of all, you’ll need to learn how to balance on the bicycle. So you’ll try on a 3 or 4 wheelers first, then after you’ve got confident with it, you’ll start the actual challenge by balancing on the real bike. First, you’ll need someone to help you stable the bike, help you get up and such. Probably, you’ll constantly use your leg as to stop falling down to the ground. Eventually, you’ll stop needing someone else and try practicing yourself. Though you still need that leg, you finally learned how to balance yourself and actually move the bike without touching your foot on the ground. When that’s done, you’ll start riding it around the yard, then the sidewalk and streets. And in the end, you can ride it everywhere !
Now I’m not trying to show you how to ride a bike, I’m showing you that everything has its steps when learning. Musical instruments, sports, languages, you name it, you need a base to learn then develop and always from the easy first then move on. But the question here is, how does that apply to make money online ? Interested ? That’s what we’ll cover on today’s post. How should teen approach the make money online world ?
1. Read up stuffs
No matter what you’re trying to learn, you need to have information first. So what I recommend you to do when you’ve decided to venture into the world of make money online is to look things up first. You can start searching the keyword “make money online” or to be more specific “make money online for teens”. In my opinion, you should try searching the first keyword then move on to the latter. This searching will help you get a general idea about what is out there. Who has had success in the field ? How did they do it ? What are some of the way to make money online and where to look for good information ? But the most crucial aspect is: SCAM ! Look around and you’ll find more scams than legit info, most of them all get coated with professionally edited videos, charming voice acting and “inspirational back story” and usually has these phrase: “I don’t need your money” “With absolutely no skills and a few minutes a day, you’ll be making *a stupidly huge amount of money, six-figures like* while doing nothing” “This will change your life forever !” Those things… And they all sound too convincing. You’ll run into those A LOT when you’re searching for information so keep an eye out. I recommend these pages for good info: First of all, I’ll be biased and lead you to Mmo4teen Blog page 🙂 And here’s some other pages JohnChow.Com ProBlogger MozSeo You can find many more but beware of scams !
2. Get into action
When you’ve got a good grasp of how to make money online, it’s time to put the knowledge into action and start making some small bucks. Here’s some guidelines for you to follow but you can switch things up a bit if you’re feeling like it:
- Always choose something with PayPal or a reputable online payment so that you know the site you’re working with is trustworthy and you can get a hold of your hard-earned money easily. Not to mention teens shouldn’t really use checks.
- Try the fast things first. Those such as Megatypers, AdFly and other quick and small online “jobs” because they cost little time and give you more experience .
- Don’t stick with only one thing. For sure, it might be tempting to make more money with something you’ve discovered but by doing so, you’re leaving a lot of opportunities out especially building your own website and blog, which probably make a lot more money than Megatypers or AdFly or the likes if done right ( except for YouTube, that thing is a great money machine too ).
- Leave blogging and building websites for later. They should be the last thing you do but a must. No matter what you’re doing, without a website or blog, there are no way for you promote yourself to the Internet world and thus, less customers, leading to poor income.
- Don’t buy anything even if it sounds too good to let by ( most of the time, it’s scam ). Trust me when I say that you don’t need any special software or product in the early days because you don’t. It’s better to learn how to do things manually first and not to mention, with your current state, using those will be kinda wasted. ( Ignore this tip for the below one ).
- Get a course. A good course will make you a lot more productive, especially if it includes a plan for you to follow. Just remember not to be scammed, search first. And of course, I’ll keep biasing about Mmo4teen courses which can be found here: Mmo4teen Courses
3. A Bare-bone Plan for you to follow
Here’s a model plan I made that you can use as a base to draw ur own plan on how to approach the make-money-online world. Crucial and a huge different, making a plan is.
- Search about “Make Money Online” : 2 weeks
- Test out all the specific ways to make money online: 2 weeks
- Review everything: 2 days
- Learn more advance stuffs like SEO, WordPress and Affiliate Marketing: 1 month
- Optional: Follow a Course.
- Start building your own website and blog: 2 months ( make it looks good and work smooth )
- Polish everything.
- Implement all you’ve learned and set up your Make Money Online Project with a clear goal income and deadline.
- Keep learning and working.
- Advance ( we’ll discuss that later ).
4. Work as a team
No teens can make ( much ) money online alone, you’ll need help, a lot of it when dealing with the sheer volume of information and workload. And it’s a lot more fun which makes things more productive. But be careful when picking a team. Don’t just take in everyone and anyone. Don’t hope that person will remain in the team for long and certainly, don’t promise anything at all. Believe me, our Mmo4teen team is a mess itself ( I’ll cover more about team building in a post in the near future ).
Try and pick one team member for a niche but don’t recruit too many people, from 3 to 4 people is the most optimal:
- An all-around manager ( 99% of the time, this should be you. If not, make it so )
- Tech guy to handle all the technical problem related to the aspect of your website or just the Internet at a whole. Pick this position wisely. Nothing will work if this guy is lazy or simply doesn’t have skills.
- Writer, someone who is decent with Literature to make editing wordings and blog posts smoothly.
- Anything you feel missing or another person for an existing position.
Your team will either make or break your project so make sure to choose it well.
5. Wrap up

As I have listed on the Make Money list on the Get Started page, Youtube is one of the most popular and easiest-to-access way to make money online for teens. Note that I said easy-to-access is not easy 🙂 . But don’t worry, in today’s post, I’ll show you how to setup your Youtube channel for Monetization and the various aspect of making money online with Youtube.
This tutorial might be a bit long so maybe I’ll divide it into multiple parts.
Let’s get started !
1. What is Youtube ?
You can skip through this since pretty much anyone that has ever used the Internet knows what Youtube is but anyway, read on if you want to know more about its make-money-online aspect.
On its own About page:
Launched in May 2005, YouTube allows billions of people to discover, watch and share originally-created videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original content creators and advertisers large and small.
YouTube is a Google company.
To sum it up, Youtube is a website that let you watch, upload and comment on videos as well as make money from the videos you uploaded, which is what matter more to us 😆

2. How does YouTube help teens make money online ?
YouTube generates tons of traffic everyday and in the world of making money online, traffic is gold. For Youtube, advertisement is their business, and it’s also a business for you to join. You have the choice to let YouTube place ads onto your videos and if those ads make money for them, you’ll get a part of it. You see, the process is pretty simple : upload a video, let YouTube place ads on it and wait for people to watch your video which in turn will make you money ! But then again, to actually make good money or any money at all on YouTube, it’s gonna require hard work and a bit deeper understanding of how to make your videos work for you. Making money with YouTube isn’t as simple as filming yourself eating a pie with your phone and gain tons of money, most of the time.

3. Setup your YouTube account and Apply for monetization
3.1. Setup your account
If you’ve already had a Gmail account then you can proceed to login to YouTube and skip this part since YouTube is a part of Google so pretty much it uses the same Google Account, your Gmail account.
If you haven’t then just simple create a Gmail (Google ) account here:
Click here to create your Google Account !
Oh and starting with this post, I’m not gonna provide instruction for filling in sign up form and verify your email as they are all the same. I’ll still give out guidance if something is particularly special.
So, just fill in this form and create your account:
After that, login to YouTube here:
Click here to go to YouTube
You can sign in from the upper right corner.
Then, click on Channel to create your Channel.
Fill in the info
Now, you’ve got your shiny new channel.
You can proceed to decorate the channel however you like. After that, let’s take a look at the Monetization Option.
3.2. Apply your channel for monetization
Google will do this part better than me though.
click here to see their instructions
Here’s a snapshot of the page. ( it might change over time though )
There’s a part about AdSense that is pretty important for receiving your money but we’ll talk about that later since probably, you won’t be able to make enough money to withdraw from AdSense as of now.
4. How YouTube calculate your income
Here’s the important part. You know, I see many people, teens and adults alike, misunderstood about Video Views and Actual Income. As impossible as it sound, a video with 1000 views can make more money than a video with 1000000 views. It is because YouTube only pays you when the ads on the video generate income, not when the video is viewed that this can happen frequently.
To understand this, first we need to understand how YouTube ads work. There are many different types of ads but the way they work can be divided into Interactive ads and Impression ads. Those are my way of calling them to make it easy for you to understand but you might found their other academic names on your journey of making money online.
Interactive Ads are ads that need the viewers action to earn money. For example, clicking on an ad that pops up on your video or the banner on the right sidebar. This type of ads gives out really high earning per click. Some might reach 1$ a click but then again, not many people click on ads so this even things out.
Impression Ads are ads that only require the viewers to simply view them This type comes in the form of Skip-able and non-Skip-able video ads or banners. Note that banners pay less than videos though. This type of ads will guarantee to make you money but the rate is no where near as good as the former. Expect anywhere between 0.5 – 10$ for 1000 views or so.
So, now you’ve understood how YouTube ads work. It’s pretty easy to see how views and income different from each other while at the same time, related. This question is probably occured in ur mind: What type of ad should I use to maximize my income ?
There’s no fit for all solution here but here are some guidelines you can follow to make sure you choose the right thing !
- Opt for the most non interrupted ads to build up your fan base and subscribers if your channel is still new and trying to gain a presence on YouTube.
- If your channel is aimed at a specific type of viewers with a specific need, Interactive Ads might work best for income sine they are easier to click on the ads that specifically aimed at them.
- If you want to make the best of YouTube, make your channel looks good in advertisers’ eyes so they are more likely to choose your channel for better ads leading to better earning.
4. How YouTube calculate your view
I don’t have much concrete information on this subject since nobody actually do. YouTube doesn’t want anyone to exploit their calculating for hacking. Here’s what I can find:
YouTube video count WILL increment when:
- You watch a video on youtube.com, as long as you don’t reload the video a bazillion times (particularly as it approaches 308 views).
- You watch an embedded video (using YouTube’s own HTML5 or Flash player) on another domain that requires you to hit play.
YouTube will NOT increment video count when:
- You watch an embedded video in a player that has autoplay enabled (video begins playing immediately on page load).
- You watch a video that is loaded through a proprietary player via the YouTube API.
Credit to AtlantaAnalytics, please note that the data was from 2010 so it might not be the most accurate; however,it seems to be how it works even now.
5. Some inspiration
Here comes some real-life stories to show you the power of money making from YouTube, some of them were teens when they started out so nothing is impossible !
PewDiePie ( Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg )
Yes, this wacky guy got 37 Millions YouTube Subscribers.
You might have heard about him or maybe you’re already a subscriber of his but here’s some facts:
On 15 August 2013, PewDiePie’s channel became the most subscribed channel on YouTube, being surpassed briefly in November and December 2013 by YouTube’s Spotlight channel. Maintaining the position since 22 December 2013, the channel has reached over 37 million subscribers, as of June 2015. On 19 July 2014, the channel surpassed RihannaVEVO to become the most viewed channel of all time. As of June 2015, the PewDiePie channel has received over 9 billion video views.
Recently, his earning was reported to be $7.4 million in 2014. PewDiePie is pretty much the biggest dude on YouTube right now.
Can you be the next Pew ?
